Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, the Head of Engineering assumes a pivotal role in spearheading our engineering team, driving their growth, and cultivating their talents within the realm of game development. This position entails not only steering the team through innovative projects but also fortifying our ranks through strategic efforts. Core duties include conceptualizing, crafting, and troubleshooting intricate systems and pivotal features, all while actively contributing as a developer. Proficiency in C++, Unreal Engine, and version control systems is paramount.

We seek a visionary individual who brings fresh perspectives to the table while maintaining the practicality requisite for game delivery. This role is a fusion of technical acumen and personnel management, demanding both strategic oversight and hands-on involvement. The ideal candidate boasts a minimum of 10 years in software engineering management, with a comprehensive background in Unreal Engine and expertise spanning areas such as graphics, gameplay, UI, audio, or tools technology.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate closely with executives to delineate a comprehensive technical strategy and operational roadmap, then execute said strategy, shaping and realizing the engineering vision
  • Champion engineering best practices and exhibit an unwavering commitment to enhancing our engineering methodologies
  • Provide adept leadership, mentorship, and direction to the engineering team, fostering a culture of high performance and perpetual growth
  • Conduct regular one-on-one sessions with team members to furnish direct, constructive feedback and offer tailored guidance for improvement
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with other departments to ensure seamless integration of engineering efforts
  • Architect and develop robust, feature-rich systems from inception to implementation
  • Produce comprehensive documentation elucidating systems for consumption by designers and fellow engineers
  • Augment systems as needed to support game development and overarching company technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • Extensive tenure within the game development industry
  • Over a decade of experience in engineering leadership roles
  • Demonstrated competencies in leadership, communication, problem-solving, and an in-depth understanding of gaming trends and technologies
  • Mastery of engineering principles and practices
  • A track record of delivering multiple titles across modern gaming platforms (PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch)
  • Excellence in C++ development and proficient in scripting languages such as Blueprint, LUA, C#, Python, etc.
  • A collaborative mindset with a knack for problem-solving
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
