Reporting to the Lead Animator, the Animator is responsible for creating high-caliber, dramatic and action-oriented character animation while at the same time meeting production deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the principles of animation as they apply to video games. This role is more focused on the narrative/cinematic side of things, but the candidate should also expect to jump into help with gameplay as needed.


Essential Functions:

  • Follow Animation direction and guidance to hit the set quality standards

  • Develop previs sequences based on storyboards, script, and direction from the Cinematic Lead

  • Implement PCAP/mocap data back into previs sequences to produce final animation sequences

  • Works as a creative liaison between internal and outsource animation teams

  • Build relationships with Technical Animators, Designers, and Programmers in order to best deliver your work while understanding technical constraints

  • Work within the scheduled time allocated for your work following the priorities established by the Animation and Cinematic Leads

  • Respond quickly to changing requirements and feedback

  • Understand and follow best practices, production pipelines, and workflows

  • Check your work in-game through regular playtesting to help identify improvements and optimizations that can be made, in addition to addressing bugs as they are assigned


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demo reel showcasing solid acting and dynamic body mechanics with both motion capture and hand-keyed work

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills

  • Good grasp of how other disciplines interact with Animation

  • Ability to work on animations from concept, through source and implementation into the engine

  • High level of proficiency in industry-standard animation software such as Maya or Motion Builder

  • Nice to have:

    • UE4 experience

    • Knowledge of cinematic principles and pipelines

    • Familiarity with animation networks/state machines/etc.
